Wake Up To The Truth Behind The Headlines
I'd like to think we're all shrewd enough to know that many tabloid headlines are nonsense but the degree to which news is exaggerated and manufactured is frightening. The celebrity obsessed culture that is ruining our media with a flood of banality and trivial non-news may seem nothing more than innocuous rubbish but the truth is far more sinister. Whilst never being dull or preachy this film is both hilarious and frightening at times. Very thought provoking and very entertaining. Not often you can say that about a film. Considering the multitude of major media corporations this film targets the director Chris Atkins (nominated for a BAFTA for the groundbreaking Taking Liberties) has got some real balls and immense integrity to release this at all. It was superb at the cinema but the DVD promises heaps of extra footage they couldn't cram into the movie in the form of DVD extras. Absurdly brilliant
You can't understand the modern world fully until you've seen this film. I've seen many of these data points before, but I've never seen them put all together in one place. Yes, electronic media - as controlled by a handful of epically corrupt and politically well connected corporations - is ruining society. It's not your imagination. It's a shame this film is not available in a format that people in the US, Canada and Japan can watch on DVD.

Insightful without being preachy....
First documentary about "the evil media" that I've been able to sit through and not want to throw out the window for being a chest-beating "woe is us" finger pointing type of show. They present some really interesting ideas about human psychology and why we're so enamoured with celebrity. They did a good job of calling out how media impacts youngsters while deftly avoiding the "what about the CHILDREN?!?!?!" whine that other progressive documentarians succumb to. Recommended!

Yoga Is: A Transformational Journey [HD]

A powerful & fun movie, full of inspiration & hope.
I saw this movie at it's Los Angeles premiere and was amazed this is the first film that Suzanne Bryant ever made. Polished, perfected and beautiful. I look forward to purchasing a copy of this next month when it comes out because it's something I can watch over and over again. Suzanne does something many documentaries fail to do, she makes you laugh, then hits you with a deep "wow" moment right after. It's funny, magical, hopeful and full of positive energy. The timing of this documentary couldn't be more perfect. With so much suffering in the world, Suzanne shows us her path through pain, and how we need to laugh more, do yoga more, and change our viewpoint into one of hope.

Beautiful and Inspiring!

Yoga Is: A Transformational Journey (DVD)
I loved this film and have watched it many, many times. I even listen to it in my car on the DVD player. I always find some new pearl of wisdom, new truth and inspiration that exactly fits what I need at that moment. It reminds me of why my yoga practice is a practice that is ever evolving and that will always bring me back to my sense of peace. Suzanne Bryant has given a true gift to the world in this film: inspiration, beauty, a path back to peace.

Saw VII The Final Chapter [HD]

There Will Be Pink Blood
I'll keep this review simple, since it is after all the seventh film in the SAW series. Since 2004, I've made the trek to my local theater to see what Jigsaw had in store, but it's become more of a chore with each passing year. The first three movies were the best, but these last two are worthy sequels. I didn't care much for IV or V. The acting this time around is okay and story doesn't lag too much, but I have to say that the traps and gore level is probably the highest of all the films. If only the blood didn't look so cheap, with a noticeable pinkish hue, I think I would have had a harder time not turning away from the carnage. There are a couple of twists that I won't spoil, but the major one was predicted more than a few movies ago by most SAW fans. Still, it is pretty neat and will hopefully wrap up these movies for good.

The 3-D wasn't really needed, but it did have a couple of body parts flying through the air moments to shine.

Trap heavy, but a weak conclusion to a seven year franchise
None of the Saw films have been able to capture the same atmosphere or effectiveness of the original film. The sequels weren't able to screw with your head or have a twist that was quite as big as the one in the 2004 film. Most of the sequels had a budget of around $10 million, but went on to gross over $50 million at the box office. It's no wonder that Jigsaw is the new face of horror and the Saw films are being called the modern version of Friday the 13th since the sequels hit every year around Halloween like clockwork. So now, here we are, the "final" installment in the franchise and it's being presented in 3-D. Unfortunately, Saw 3D leaves a lot to be desired.

The film honestly felt like it was just trap after trap after trap until we reached the finale. The traps were bigger and sure, they looked pretty great in 3-D, but they were happening to new characters; characters we didn't know or care about. It seemed like they tried to cram as many traps they could into an...

It should have been amazing.
In the seventh go around, the 3D gimmick is employed to make the crazy traps come alive. And being the seventh entry, it's only natural that this Saw is in need of a good sharpening.

I've seen every film in this series, and this one falls somewhere in the middle as far as plot, quality, and creativity go. The movie is being advertised as the final Saw, and I hope that's true. I have always been intrigued by the overall premise - which isn't just to slice and dice innocent victims like so much of the "torture porn" does nowadays. These movies take moral and ethical dilemmas, and turn them into inventive life or death games. This seventh film lost a lot of the originality and the traps seemed quite repetitive, while many of the deaths were not justifiable in the realm of the Saw logic. Here the filmmakers just decided to splatter as much blood on their 3D audience for sheer shock value - and that is not something I am a fan of.

Children Of The Corn IV: The Gathering [HD]

Not the best one... but close
... Not many of them are scary. I will admit though the first texas chainsaw massacre did. Recently ive been watching the COTC series(an exausting 7) and it seems the more they make the less of a story we get. It went from not many killings and a good story(COTC 1) to basically no story and alot of blood, killing, and horribly effected creatures(COTC 3)but i will say that of the series, 4 is definitly one of the best. Yeah there is a lot of killing, blood, and some baaaaad acting(the black girl who dies) but it actually has a story to it.. Honestly im not lieing. the story doesnt really get told till toward the end but the story is actually good and seems like it took more than 5 min to come up with. No other author in recent memory has had as much consistent success selling books as Stephen King. For roughly three decades the Maine writer churned out book after book, each one selling more and more copies. He's a world unto himself, the lucky fellow! Prophecy II [HD]

Heaven's war has returned to earth.
Think you would want to actually meet an angel? As this film points out, angels always had one wing dipped in blood. For whenever God needed a people, a city, a nation to be chastised- he sent angels to do the killing. The angels in this film, both in terms of quality of acting and special effects are very, very believable.

Another thing that sets this film apart is it's theological and metaphysical sophistication. A very good case is made for a second war in heaven. This is because when God bestowed his Grace, his holy spark, unto humans, he raised them up above the angels. Some angels, like Gabriel, just couldn't stand being made second to "a bunch of talking monkeys."

In this sequel, Gabriel returns to earth. This is due to the fact, as Lucifer states early in the film, Hell isn't big enough for both of them. However, this time instead of searching for the one perfect Dark Soul to turn the tide of the heavenly war, he is searching for the new Nephilim, a child of the...

Interesting Sequel
The first "Prophecy" is no doubt a classic,and the second addition to the trilogy could possibly be one too."Prophecy 2" has Christopher Walken reprising his role as the fallen angel "Gabriel", instead of searching for a sole to lead his army, "Gabriel" is after a women impreagnated by an angel. "Prophecy 2" provides good cinematography,some nice C.G.I. effects,and a strong performance by Christopher Walken.I would suggest buying the first one,and if you like that one,then "Prophecy 2" is for you.

THE TRUMPET SOUNDS AGAIN
This second in the five movie series of PROPHECYS is a little more coherent than some of them, and a good performance from Jennifer Beals as the future mother of the Nemolith which will destroy Gabriel helps immensely. Christopher Walken is good as usual as the archangel Gabriel who wants to find Beals and make sure she doesn't have that little boy. Russell Wong is the staunch angel hero trying to protect Beals and Eric Roberts has a small role as Michael. Brittany Murphy is well cast in the role of the unwilling Gabriel henchwoman. All in all, a good follow up to the original and one of the best of the series.

You Were Meant for Me

Big Bands and Beautiful Music at the start of the Great Depression
I saw this film as a spiritual, almost religous event. Dan Dailey plays with considerable skill and charm a somewhat successful band leader derailed by the 1929 economic collapse. Jeanne Crain is his much younger and loving wife. Oscar Levant hangs around delivering brilliant piano work and acerbic charm. Underlining the light presentation is a set of core beliefs encompassing hope, hard work, and good old American know how. I love the film and related to it personally and professionally.

The DVD transfer from Fox is quite good.

good remake
The story is very like " The orchastra wives". It was enjoyable. The dvd was good, good picture and sound. I wish there where more movies like this. I cant stand all the swearing and nudity in movies today. Hollywood really put out good movies in the forties and early fifties.

Nice old fashioned romance
This movie is romantic, and it captures that moment in time when men and women respected each other. Sweet story.

Rock Of Ages: Extended Edition (plus bonus features)

More fun than expected - funny, good singing, and real star power from Tom Cruise
I saw "Rock of Ages" in a sneak preview tonight, and was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. I had not seen the stage production, but I've seen some other stage musicals converted to movies, and have been generally disappointed, sometimes appalled (I'm looking at you, "Mama Mia!")

Set in 1987, the general plot involves a pair of newcomers to Hollywood, trying to become rock stars, but finding the closest they can get is working in the hottest rock & roll club on the Hollywood Strip. From here, the story expands to include the owners of the club, a politician and his wife who are fighting the corrupting influence of rock music, and the biggest rock god on the planet, Stacee Jaxx, played by Tom Cruise.

MOVIE REVIEW #38: " Rock of Ages "

The first thing I want to say is that this film is about the Music of the 80's! - Having been a young `whipper-snapper' at the time - what surprised me most about this film - was that it was FUNNY!. Laugh out loud funny. That alone, seems to take the entire audience I was with by surprise. So-much-so, that they applauded and laughed throughout the film out loud. Like me!

Hearing these songs done by Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible, Top Gun) singing Bon Jovi's classic "Wanted Dead or Alive," (YES TOM SINGS AND VERY WELL TOO!) to Def Leppard's hit "Pour Some Sugar On Me," and Guns `N Roses anthem "Paradise City." Along with Cruise then doing duets with Malin Akerman (The Proposal, Watchmen) on Foreigner's power ballad, "I Want To Know What Love Is," and shares the mic with Julianne Hough (Footloose-2011, Burlesque) on The Scorpions' "Rock You Like A Hurricane." ...was a cinematic shock to me.
