An amazing documentary of a basic human desire to succeed
Records were made to be broken, and this movie highlights just how far people will go to prove they are the best in the world at something. It highlights the very basic human instinct to achieve something no one has accomplished before. The movie uses seemingly average human examples and shows how this desire drives them to go well beyond what most of us would be willing to endure just to have their name in the world renowned book of Guiness World Records. These wonderfully constructed stories somehow accomplish making the viewer both empathetic to their obsessions, yet at the same time inspired by their will to accomplish their goals.
Wonderfully idiotic and inspirational
This peek into the subculture of record breakers and wannabe record breakers is a blast. The three main stories are all compelling in their own way and the director does a great job of touching on the feats of several other bizarre and brilliant characters throughout the film. While you may shake your head at the aspirations of some of these people, you have to admire the drive and perseverance they demonstrate as they pursue their goals.
Bizarre, scary, interesting as hell
Reminds me of the great stuff by Errol Morris. A peek at one of the more bizarre subcultures in this country.
